The Cat Specialist Veterinary Clinic

Hello there! Today we’d like you all to meet Blue (8 years old), Seri (3.5 years old) and Harry (2 years old) –they are the proud owners of dear old Sandy, our Cat Vet Clinic’s manager.

Unfortunately, we don’t yet have a photo of all three cats in one frame. But we do have valuable insights to share with you about the cat’s diet, which has been tried and tested by our very own Sandy.

Due to close family and friends being allergic to cats, Sandy decided to change her cats’ diet to Purina ProPlan LiveClear. This is a specially designed cat food that reduces allergens from the cats’ hair and dander, which reduces allergic reactions in humans. Today, we are going to have a first-hand testimonial from Sandy about how this cat food works and its benefits and get her opinion on whether the product is a safe choice for your cats.

Here’s What Sandy Feels About Purina ProPlan LiveClear

It seems everyone closest to me is allergic to cats – my sister, her entire family and my partner. My sister’s family (her husband in particular) always had to limit their time at my house. Within 20 minutes, my nephew would need antihistamines, and my sister would endure an itchy nose and eyes just from spending a little time with my cats. To be very honest with you, I do not recall the last time her husband came over! I have come across numerous individuals suffering from cat allergies, but my partner’s reactions to simply being in the same room as me escalated the situation significantly. He accepted his unfortunate fate from the start that spending time with me meant keeping antihistamines at arm’s length, continuous sneezing, a runny nose, and extremely itchy and watery eyes from just my clothes. There was even a time when a nebuliser was needed to alleviate breathing difficulties.

Perhaps many of you have faced or are currently experiencing this situation. Although not life-threatening, it definitely comes as a massive inconvenience to everyone involved. Since there was no solution, my close friends and I did our best by limiting exposure, using an excessive amount of lint rollers, and constantly vacuuming. You know the drill.

When Proplan LiveClear was first introduced in the UAE, as thrilling as it was to imagine a world without inconveniencing my loved ones, hesitation was the initial reaction due to three potential upset stomachs from a change in my cat’s diet. Having attended a few LiveClear events and learning how the food works, I grew more confident in the overall scientific backing of the product. Now, here’s the thing: all three of my cats, Blue, Seri and Harry, have been on gastroenterological food their entire lives (2 out of 3 have a history of extremely sensitive tummies) and have tasted nothing else other than the occasional Churu treat. I was extremely hesitant initially and pondered for over two months (during which experts at Pro Plan were constantly disturbed by my queries) until I managed to work up the courage to give it a go.

The plan was to start with 3 days of adding FortiFlora Probiotics to their normal diet and then to slowly incorporate LiveClear with ongoing probiotics. When changing your pet’s diet, our doctors at The Cat Vet always recommend a gradual transition, at least giving it 10-14 days. Being the anxious person that I am when it comes to my cats, I chose a transition period of 21 days. To my surprise and relief, there were no upset stomachs during the 21 days, and I plan to continue incorporating FortiFlora into their diet for the next few weeks. Although there was a slight resistance to the new food from the very skittish Seri, overall palatability was not an issue.

The product descriptions say that users can expect a 47% decrease in allergic reactions after 3 weeks of use. Because I used a longer transition period, I gave it some two months to see my results. However, much to my surprise, just 4 days into the complete transition, for the first time ever, my partner did not sneeze or rub his eyes even once during dinner. To gauge the effect of the food, I invited my sister and her son over the following day. Instead of the usual 20 minutes, it took more time for them to show minor allergic reactions. They were miraculously able to sit on the sofa comfortably for one hour until they had to leave.

For those who suffer from cat allergies or have experienced close family and friends who do, to say this was shocking is an understatement. To be able to see noticeable results within one month from individuals who have been allergic to cats all their lives was truly fascinating.
Now, some words of advice from one cat lover to another: One month of using the FortiFlora Probiotics, including the transition period, is definitely not enough time to see full results.

The results may vary from person to person and take varying lengths of time. I would suggest continuing with this cat food, as the results are quite effective. You will see it sooner or later. So, stay hopeful and have a little patience until you see significant improvements in the human and cat contact. I hope you get to enjoy more time together without worrying about allergies, just like my family has.
